Swimming with the Big Wave

Software developers will not be safe from the wrath of GenAI, unless they learn how to tame and ride this big tiger.

To ensure that software developers remain valuable in the age of generative AI, they need to work on some strategies. And these are not very difficult to understand or practice.

To begin with, experts suggest, that the techies must build their soft skills. GenAI is great at coding, but it lacks creativity, empathy, and strong communication skills.

Developers should improve their ability to work in teams, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and understand user needs. These human-centered skills will always be crucial.

The next proposed action plan for developers is to master GenAI integration. Instead of seeing it as a threat, developers should learn how to integrate and leverage GenAI in their projects. Knowing how to use GenAI as a tool in development (e.g., for code generation, testing, etc.) can make developers more efficient and valuable. Another possible action plan for not getting badly hit by GenAI is to enhance UI (user experience) skills. GenAI may be able to generate code, but it doesn’t always understand how to create seamless, intuitive user experiences. Developers can focus on designing and optimizing user interfaces (UI) and improving UX, which requires deep understanding of human behavior and psychology.

Another very useful tip from those who are working on strategies to handle and leverage GenAI is that while it can generate code, GernAI still struggles with understanding complex systems and solving new and unique problems. Developers can focus on high-level problem-solving and system design, areas where human expertise is still essential. Also, let us not forget that security is becoming more complex with GenAI and the rise of cyber threats. Developers should specialize in secure coding practices, ethical hacking, and ensuring AI-generated code doesn't introduce vulnerabilities.

Fostering creativity and innovation is perhaps also a sure shot to be able to take advantage of GenAI rather than get eaten up by it. GenAI is only as creative as the data it’s trained on. Developers should continue to push the boundaries of innovation, thinking outside the box to create unique solutions or entirely new concepts that GenAI can't replicate. Mastering data engineering and AI models is another likely art of war that developers can adopt. They can upskill in data engineering, machine learning, and the building of GenAI models. Understanding how GenAI works at a deep level will position developers to be the architects and caretakers of generative AI systems, rather than just users.

The other possible game plan could be to get into DevOps. GenAI can automate many aspects of development, but it still requires human oversight. Developers should focus on mastering DevOps practices, continuous integration/continuous deployment, and automation to optimize workflows and make teams more efficient. As AI systems become more powerful, the ethical implications of AI are becoming a bigger concern. Developers should gain expertise in AI ethics to help create fair, transparent, and responsible AI applications, and ensure that these systems are used appropriately. This itself is likely to be a super specialization within the GenAI domain

And last but certainly not the least is the advice that developers need to be working on is to stay updated on emerging technologies. This is something techies are always advised, but the need to be updated was never as critical, as it is in the face of GenAI. The technology landscape is evolving rapidly. Developers should continue learning about new programming languages, frameworks, and tools that emerge alongside generative GenAI to stay ahead of the curve.

By focusing on these areas, software developers can position themselves as indispensable in the ever-evolving tech landscape, using generative GenAI as an enabler rather than a replacement.

The Delighted Clients

“Deeply grateful, once again, for Infoglen team’s response, especially Yasar and Manish, to resolve the issues quickly and effectively.”

Congratulations to Yasar and Manish!

The client recently encountered several issues stemming from a December enhancement related to Service Category Activation dates. This initial issue cascaded into problems with Work Order Account Manager assignments and a higher-than-expected volume of Work Orders with incorrect assignments due to a delayed deployment. These issues impacted the Sales Team's performance and commissions, as well as automated Account ownership assignment.

The team worked diligently to understand the problems, identify necessary corrections, develop a solution, and manage testing and implementation. Yasar and Manish dedicated significant weekend time to rebuild data for over 2,100 Accounts and update affected Work Orders. Their work not only saved the team considerable time on manual updates but also restored the business team's confidence in the data. Senior Director, IT MultiPro at Valet Living, thanked Yasar and Manish and was appreciative of Infoglen’s continued partnership.

Sandwich-Making Magic at Jai Hind Learning Center

Senior Content Analyst

The NCR team visited the Jai Hind ‘Amaltas’ Primary Learning Center, a project run by our NGO partner, Tarraqi I Foundation. The activity focused on a fun and interactive cooking session where team members guided the children in preparing their own veggie sandwiches – a simple, no-fire recipe. This initiative aimed to provide a fun learning experience for the children while also fostering a sense of community and giving back.

The Infoglen volunteers participated in the activity, working alongside the dedicated teachers and staff at the center. The children were divided into smaller groups, each guided by a volunteer. The "Bites and Banter" team had prepped all the necessary ingredients, including bread, a variety of fresh vegetables, spreads, and condiments. The children actively participated, spreading, layering, and assembling their own delicious veggie sandwiches. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and laughter as the children proudly crafted their culinary creations.

  • Children's Experience: The children thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on cooking activity. They learned about different vegetables, practiced basic food preparation skills, and experienced the joy of creating and eating their own food. The activity fostered teamwork, creativity, and a sense of accomplishment. Beyond the immediate enjoyment, the children also gained a simple, healthy recipe they could potentially replicate at home.

  • Volunteer Experience: The NCR team volunteers appreciated the opportunity to connect with the children and contribute to the community.

  • Lunchbox Sponsorship: In addition to the cooking activity, the NCR team sponsored lunchboxes for all 40 children present at the Amaltas Center that day. This ensured that all the children had a nutritious and fulfilling meal.

The veggie sandwich-making workshop at the Learning Center not only provided a fun and educational experience for the children but also fostered a sense of community and goodwill. The combined efforts of the NCR team, the "Bites and Banter" cooking club, and Tarraqi I Foundation created a memorable and impactful experience for everyone involved.
